Komen Brings Mobile Mammography Van to North Portland

The Tuality mobile mammography van will be in the Vancouver Avenue First Baptist Church parking lot, from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Oct. 20 to provide mammograms for women 40 and older who have not had one in at least one year.

Pre-registration, by Oct. 14, is required for a mammogram appointment. Mammograms are available, with or without insurance, to women who are 40 and older, who do not have any symptoms of breast cancer (lump, discharge, etc), are not pregnant or breast feeding, and have a primary care home or doctor where mammogram results can be sent. If possible, their insurance company will be billed. If a woman does not have insurance and does not qualify for ScreenWise, Oregon’s free mammogram program, then Komen has funds set aside to cover the cost. If someone has Kaiser insurance, they will be connected to a Kaiser Permanente (KP) representative to schedule their mammogram at a KP facility, as it is not accepted on the Van.

Screening mammograms are being provided as part of Komen’s Worship in Pink program, a breast health education program for congregations of all faiths. Volunteer Ambassadors are trained by Komen to present breast health education activities in their congregations in October that share the importance of screening in the early detection of breast cancer.

Worship in Pink activities are open to the community. Vancouver Avenue First Baptist Church is holding their Worship in Pink activities on Saturday, October 6 and Sunday, October 7.
